The Institute for Economic Empowerment conducts research, demonstration, and development projects to make significant progress toward the strategic goal of full and fair employment for individuals with severe disabilities, particularly those facing the most significant disability-related barriers to employment.
The Institute was founded by NISH, a nonprofit agency that develops and maintains employment and training opportunities for people with significant disabilities through the AbilityOne Program. The AbilityOne Program leverages the buying power of the United States government to generate jobs for people with severe disabilities. Using AbilityOne, Federal agencies buy products and services from nonprofit agencies employing people with severe disabilities. For more information about NISH, visit http://www.nish.org. For more information about the AbilityOne Program, visit http://www.abilityone.gov. The Institute's research is intended to expand and improve employment opportunities for people with disabilities both within and outside of the AbilityOne Program.
